Xi leaves Washington after National Archives stop; little public progress on trade or Taiwan
President Trump and first lady Melania Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, for tea at the White House on Friday, then toured the National Archives, where the state visit concluded, the White House said. At Thursday's state dinner, Trump gave Xi a bald eagle sculpture, the New York Post reported, while protesters outside chanted "Free Hong Kong," according to Fox News. The BBC reported the leaders exchanged warm words but gave little indication of progress on trade, AI or Taiwan. Xi said he expects to meet Trump twice more this year, at the APEC summit in Shenzhen, China, and at the G20 summit in Florida.
